STUBBS BUILDING
Lawrence, KS

Mar Lan Construction was selected as the general contractor to provide interior and exterior renovations with historical preservation for the iconic Stubbs Building, originally built in 1910, at 1101 Massachusetts in downtown Lawrence. Original use for the building was retail space on the first floor and offices on the second floor. This is basically the same scope today. Demolition, structural reinforcements beginning in the basement and continuing upward through the roof structure, reconstruction of the second floor to tie it to the existing system, restoring the structural integrity all while utilizing the historical framing members, exterior façade modifications and restorations including wood windows, wood doors and entrances, utility upgrades, and leveling of exterior sidewalks. It’s quite gratifying to see a 110 year old building being restored to last another 110+ years.
