Mar Lan Construction was selected by Douglas County to assist with pre-construction budgeting and scheduling so that an overall project could be developed for approval by the Douglas County Commission. This process took over 2 years to complete. Once the project was approved, Mar Lan Construction was selected as the CM at Risk through the normal competitive process for pre-qualification and selection per State of Kansas statute. The project consists of two new major enclosed building additions:
One is a 55,000 square foot Open Pavilion livestock exhibition building and judging arena.
Another new building is a 7,500 square foot Meeting Hall. This multi-use building houses a large multipurpose room that can be divided with an operable partition. It features a warming kitchen and restrooms.
Other major additions to the Fairgrounds are a new multi-use Outdoor Arena, with seating that is used for rodeos and other activities. New restroom facilities were built adjacent to the Outdoor Arena.
The project scope also included new parking lots, an RV parking area with hook-ups, and numerous infrastructure improvements to the 36-acre tract of land and facilities.
