The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation contracted with Mar Lan Construction to provide design-build services for a new judicial council building on their reservation.
The 4400 square foot building contains a state of the art audio-video courtroom system as well as a back-lit, decorative glass panel etched with the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Keeper of the Fire seal, located behind the judge’s bench. The building houses judicial administration, judge’s quarters, and office space with jury and conference rooms.
Exterior features include a banded EIFS facade, Kansas thin limestone veneer, cedar-wrapped trusses, and natural daylight skylights in the courtroom. Ground source geothermal well systems service the heating and cooling of the building.
The building entrance is highlighted by a 60″ round, 2″ thick granite insert with the building name engraved in the surface. A photovoltaic solar panel system was installed on the building’s roof to provide supplemental electrical energy to the building.
