With the success of the “FOR THEM” campaign to build a new facility to better meet the needs of the pets and the people who adopt them, Mar Lan Construction was chosen as the CM at Risk to build the new Lawrence Humane Society Animal Shelter.
The 21,000 square foot facility is underway after the May groundbreaking. All the operational functions of the organization will be housed in the new building. The design allows for improved operational efficiency for current programs and services, as well as the development and enhancements of new programs and services aimed at improving community animal welfare and education, and keeping pets and people together.
The new building addresses the challenges currently faced in the existing facility and allows the organization to fulfill longer-term goals and objectives that will ultimately save more lives.
Superintendent, Marty Criqui, has been moving dirt, pouring concrete, and getting everything ready for the first phase of the project which is to get the floor slab placed and ready to go vertical.
Once the new facility is built, the old building will be decommissioned to make room for a really cool future 27,000 square foot dog park.
